How to Optimize Parallels Desktop in One Click
When it comes to operating systems, it can be hard to pick your favorite. Many people can appreciate the design, ease and functionality of a Macintosh computer. However, Windows is still undoubtedly the king and there are plenty of programs you only find on this platform.

How to Optimize Parallels Desktop in One Click
The good news is that you don’t have to just pick one OS and stick to it. The software has made it possible to run both operating systems on a single machine – without it being difficult. One such program is Parallels. So, let’s see what it takes the optimizing the software?

Creating your user profile:

The reason you want to run Windows on your Apple computer might vary. You might need it for work-related things, it might help you play more games or it can be part of your ability to tweak the design. But your use would have its effect on the optimization – the needs are different in terms of productivity or software development, as the programs you need to run will be different.

To solve this, Parallels has made it possible to create user profiles. These profiles will then make it easier to know your settings are optimized for your needs. Before we look at these profiles in a little more detail, let’s make sure you know how to turn it on.

Turning on the profile with a single click:

You, of course, need to have Parallels bought and installed. You can find Parallels here and the installation process won’t take a lot of time. In order for the profiles to work, you need to make sure the Parallels Desktop VM has Windows installed inside it – so remember to get the OS as well!

If your Windows VM is still open, you can shut it down. Navigate to your VM’s configuration. You can find it by clicking the General tab first and then be choosing Change – it’s right next to Configure For.

Once you click Change, you’ll notice the four user profile options: Productivity, Games only, Design, and Software Development. You can select your chosen profile, click on it and continue to press OK.

In order for the new profile to be in use, you need to fire up your VM and the user profile will be applied. Whenever you need to change the user profile, just follow this simple single-click strategy and you will optimize your desktop in an instant.

If you want to restore the default setting, you will find the Restore Defaults button at the right side of the configuration window. By selecting it, any changes you’ve made will be reversed.

So, let’s look at what to expect from the profiles

Four user profiles to choose from:

There are four separate profiles to choose from when it comes to using Parallels. Your first option is the Productivity profile. This is for users who need Windows for work – surfing the web, watching movies, using basic Windows applications such as QuickBooks. When you use this profile, you’ll use two virtual CPUs and 1GB memory.

You could also opt for the Design profile, which is perfect for those who use image editing software. The profile makes it easy to optimize things like Photoshop and 3-D modeling software. The VM will utilize all the recommended memory and 512 MB of video memory. You can even save products directly on the Mac side.

Another profile for the working person is the Software Development profile. If you develop apps, web pages, or do software or network testing, this is a good profile to select. The profile uses the maximum recommended CPU and memory with the VM and it enables PMU virtualisation.

Finally, you have the Games Only profile. This is perfect for those that want to run Windows purely for playing games. The VM will use the maximum recommended memory and around 512 MB of video memory. Even your mouse and keyboard will be optimized for gaming purposes and the Windows startup screen is set to Full Screen.

Creating your own optimization:

But if the above doesn’t seem enough, you can create your own custom profile. You can manually adjust memory use, CPU use and the likes. To do this, just go to the configuration tab and fine-tune the different functionalities to suit your preferences.

There are many reasons you want to pick an Apple computer. There are also as many reasons for needing to use Windows operating system and the good news is how technology allows you to use both. Furthermore, with the optimization options available, you don’t need to settle for a bad compatibility and functionality – Parallels ensures you can make the most of your Windows use without having to reboot the computer or get a separate computer. So, if you want to optimize your Parallels use, start using the above profiles now.
