Signs agreement with PNP-ACG to strengthen fight vs cybercrimes
GCash is set to roll out a new security feature that aims to prevent unauthorized transactions brought about by phishing and other types of scams.
With #GSafeTayo the Philippines’ number one financial app introduced the “double authentication” feature which can ensure that only the account owner has the ability to link his GCash account to a specific device.
“This feature removes customers’ dependence on SMS OTPs which has been exploited by some fraudsters to scam users. It will provide a unique identifier that can’t be phished by scammers. It also provides an additional layer of security to the current SMS OTP,” said Winsley Bangit, Chief Customer Officer of GCash. “We never stop innovating to make sure our 71 million users have the safest and most convenient experience when they use the app.”
GCash has also introduced a new product under its GInsure platform, “Online Shopping Protect”. For just P34 per month, get up to Php20,000 in insurance coverage for incomplete deliveries, defective items, accidentally-damaged, or stolen products.
The new offering, which will launch soon on GInsure, is powered by global insurance company, Chubb.
Aside from continuing to beef up its security measures, GCash has also been ramping up its partnership with authorities and regulators to help ensure the whole e-wallet ecosystem is safe for all.
During the #GSafeTayo media launch, GCash also signed a memorandum of agreement with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) to strengthen collaboration in going after perpetrators involved in phishing, smishing, online fraud, e-scams, vishing, and other cybercrimes that take advantage of GCash users.
“I would like to express my confidence that through our stronger partnership with the PNP-ACG, we will be able to achieve more in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of cybercrimes. GCash also assures the PNP-ACG that we will do whatever we can in order to successfully implement our agreement,” said GCash Chief Legal Officer Atty. Maricor Alvarez-Adriano.
Through its intensified security campaign under #GSafeTayo, GCash has also been constantly reminding its users to never share their MPIN or OTP, as well as to never click links outside of the GCash app, especially from websites or senders which you have not verified to be legitimate.
In fact, GCash has already removed all clickable links in its official SMS and emails to users to help them determine that when they receive messages with links, then these are scams.
The e-wallet has also migrated transaction notification messages to the in-app inbox and masked the names of send money recipients to further protect the users’ funds and personal data.
Through its revitalized security campaign, GCash is aiming to mitigate scam incidents by employing a combination of user education, increased cooperation with law enforcement agencies, as well as continuously upgrading its internal security platform.
#GCash Beefs up User Protection with Certification from Int’l Data Security Standards Firm
The leading mobile wallet is now Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard certified
GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet, recently achieved a compliance certification from the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), assuring every Filipino of the e-wallet’s commitment to the highest quality standards on data security.
PCI-DSS is a standard that is being administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI-SSC) which includes top global credit card brands such as MasterCard, Visa, American Express, JCB International, and Discover Financial Services
The standard ensures that all companies which accept, process, store, or transmit credit/debit cardholder information maintain a secure environment to protect customers. Compliance is validated annually by an external Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) such as ControlCase Inc., a global provider of certification, cybersecurity, and continuous compliance services, which also conducted the assessment of GCash.
“This certification is a testament to our commitment of adhering to only the highest standards in safety and security. This is proof that, at GCash, we take data privacy and cybersecurity very seriously, as it is one of our key pillars in ensuring our customers have the best experience when they use our services. GCash will continue to pursue more global industry best practices to better serve our 71 million customers,” GCash President and CEO Martha Sazon said.
The formal awarding ceremony was held at the GCash headquarters. It was attended by key officials of the company as well executives from Globe Group, the parent firm of Mynt which operates GCash.
The ceremony was also graced by ControlCase president Suresh Dadlani and its head of business development Michelle Mascardo. Also present at the event were project team members from GCash’s Information Security Group, Technology and Operations, along with other business support teams.
As it continues to expand its services and reach more unserved individuals, GCash remains steadfast in boosting the app’s safeguards while continuously strengthening its sense of accountability, ethics, and compliance to further improve customer’s experience and provide them safe, secure, and more convenient digital financial solutions.
#GCash, #CIMB Bank offer the Highest Interest rate of 8% p.a. via #GSave
The country’s leading mobile wallet GCash, and CIMB Bank, the country’s leading digital banking services provider, are offering their users up to 8% interest rate per annum on GSave until January 31, 2023.
The offer, which is currently the highest interest rate available in the market, will be available for existing customers of the bank who opened their accounts for more than 60 calendar days at the start of the qualifying month. It will be applicable to the difference in total average daily balance (ADB) from the previous month.
The promo is also inclusive of other promo and base rates for ADB growth including the 2.6% p.a. for GSave accounts. This is also inclusive of the 4% p.a. promo rate applicable to the first P200,000 ADB. Any incremental ADB growth will receive 8% p.a. wherein the total reward given to a customer will be equivalent to 8% p.a.
To calculate their ADB, customers need to get the total of their daily balance at the end of each day for the qualifying month and divide them by the total number of days in the qualifying month.
For customers who have multiple deposit accounts with CIMB Bank, the interest rate reward will be computed based on the qualifying month’s Total ADB for GSave accounts.
With CIMB on GSave, GCash provides Filipinos, especially the unbanked and underserved, with the opportunity to open a savings account that requires no initial deposit, maintaining balance, or lock-in period.
To start their journey towards their financial goals via GSave, users simply need to log in to their GCash account and tap GSave by CIMB Bank which can be found in the GSave Hub section. Then, click “Open a Savings Account.” On the Save Money Registration page, tick the box under CIMB Bank Policies to agree to the Terms and Conditions and tap Open a Savings Account. Lastly, tap “OK” after the confirmation message has been displayed.
With over 71 million registered users, GCash continues to give more Filipinos an opportunity to grow their finances and build a better future for themselves and their loved ones, in line with its clear vision of “finance for all”.

#GCash, ABS-CBN Foundation plant 88,000 Seedlings and Launch new Trees in #GForest
GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet, together with the ABS-CBN Foundation, has once again achieved a big win for the environment after planting over 88,000 seedlings in La Mesa Watershed via the GForest, the sustainability feature on the GCash app.
“Together with the ABS-CBN Foundation, GCash continues to uphold its goal of promoting environmental conservation and sustainability. GForest has been making a concrete impact in the reforestation efforts of the country and we believe that each tree contributed by GForest can ultimately create meaningful and positive changes in our country and the environment,” GCash president and CEO Martha Sazon said.
Kicked off in 2022, the joint initiative between the leading e-wallet and ABS-CBN Foundation aims to help drive climate change awareness, encourage more Filipinos to do green activities, and ultimately, preserve and enrich the La Mesa Watershed, the primary source of drinking water for Metro Manila’s over 12 million population.
This is also in support of the “Save the La Mesa Watershed Project” and its 22 years of long-standing efforts in reforestation and protecting the vital watershed. GCash, along with its partners aim to plant 2.3 Million trees across the country by this year.
“It is truly an honor to team up with GCash as we aim to achieve our common goal of conserving the environment. We look forward to continuing working with GCash and creating a greener and brighter future for all Filipinos,” ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Roberta Lopez Feliciano said.
GCash users can now easily take part in planting new trees in La Mesa Ecopark using the GForest feature on the GCash app. This includes the Malapaya Tree (85K trees), a new species recently added in GForest, which can grow up to 50 meters. This tree is a good source for the manufacture of plywood and a variety of common-use products like matchsticks and popsicle sticks. It can also be used as a replacement for non-biodegradable food containers.
Other new trees that can now be planted are the Lago and Lipote trees. The Lago tree (46K trees) can grow up to around 35 meters and is a good material for making furniture, cabinets, and plywood. Meanwhile, the Lipote tree (28K trees) can grow up to around 15 meters. Its fruits can also be eaten raw or cooked, and are used in making preserves, jellies, wine, pickles, and beverages. It is also known to help treat diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol.
“Many Filipinos care about the environment but don’t know how to actively take part in environmental protection. This is a barrier that GForest addresses. By using GCash and GForest, making a positive and impactful difference is now easier, and more convenient,” GCash AVP for sustainability CJ Alegre said.
To become a ‘green hero’, GCash users simply need to frequently use the app’s convenient financial services, products, and offerings, such as Send Money, Pay Bills, GCredit, GSave, and more, which will be converted into green energy on GForest. Moreover, by doing more efficient and environmentally friendly digital transactions on the app, GCash also enables users to lessen their carbon footprint. With the green energy points they have collected, they can plant virtual trees on the app, which are then converted into actual trees by GCash together with its partners, and will be planted in its partner sites nationwide.
Beyond providing safe and convenient digital financial solutions to Filipinos, GCash is also steadfast in creating more partnerships to help the country achieve a better, greener, and more sustainable futur
